The Milan Declaration on the Crucial Role of Science in meeting Global Challenges

The Milan Declaration on the Crucial Role of Science in meeting Global Challenges

The Milan Declaration on the Crucial Role of Science in meeting Global Challenges stresses the importance of Science and Scientific Research in providing coordinated solutions to global problems and challenges.

Our purpose is to bring together citizens and scientists to support the Milan Declaration action items, communicate and engage citizens in the important role Science plays in solving challenges on a global level, educate the public, promote advocacy, and unite citizens, civil society, and scientific organizations in advancing Science as a pillar of global cooperation and trust.

FEBS supports the Biomed Alliance's statement, which expresses concerns regarding the potential cut in health funding in the next Multiannual Financial Framework.

The Health is wealth: policy makers must preserve investment to protect the health of EU citizens statement expresses concerns regarding the potential cut of health funding in the next Multiannual Financial Framework. This reduction could seriously impede the implementation of a strong and coordinated European Health Strategy, and ultimately impacting the well-being of citizens, the resilience of the health workforce and Europe’s innovation and competitiveness in the health field.

Join the knowledge exchange with a late-breaking abstract submission

Still wondering about presenting your work as a poster at the 49th FEBS Congress? Act now to catch the late-breaking abstract submission deadline of 19 May 2025. Research and education posters are both welcome, and this year accepted late-breaking abstracts will be included in the FEBS Open Bio supplement of Congress abstracts. Find all the details on the Late-breaking Abstracts webpage.

Get ready for a celebration of achievements in molecular life science research

Prizes highlight important contributions and inspire us all. Several plenary lecturers at the 49th FEBS Congress will be receiving awards, including the 2025 FEBS medal recipients featured below, who are being honoured for ‘outstanding achievements in biochemistry and molecular biology or related sciences’. Excellent work from delegates presenting at the event will also be recognized, with poster and speed talk prizes from the FEBS journals – find out more in the FEBS Press section of the newsletter.

Stay tuned for social programme news

The local Congress organizers are busy finalizing plans to complement the scientific programme, including a surprise opening ceremony, early-morning fitness sessions, a jazz–science fusion event, and a trip on the Bosphorus! Some activities will be offered via limited tickets that will be available to purchase, so if you’re coming to the Congress look out for email news about this from the Congress Secretariat in late May.

Develop your teaching and training know-how

Many molecular life science researchers are also involved in teaching, training and mentoring, and the 49th FEBS Congress offers much of interest in this area for all career stages. Don’t miss an ‘education plenary lecture’, a FEBS–IUBMB session on AI in bioscience teaching, and a FEBS–ORPHEUS session on ‘PhD training in a changing world: Standards, ethics, and career growth’. FEBS Press at the FEBS Congress 2025

FEBS Press is buzzing like a beehive making preparations for the FEBS Congress in Istanbul, and our editors are looking forward to all the exciting science that will be presented. The journals will reward outstanding researchers every day. The FEBS Journal and FEBS Letters will award their prestigious annual monetary prizes to the corresponding authors of the best research article published in the journal last year, and the winners will present their work in a dedicated session. FEBS Open Bio, which especially supports Early Career Researchers, is awarding a bursary to attend the FEBS Congress to a young scientist who published a paper of special interest in the journal in the last 18 months. FEBS Open Bio will also offer two prizes to the best speed talks presented at the conference.

In recognition of the contribution of posters to the event, the FEBS Press editors will be selecting outstanding posters for daily prizes. The editors of Molecular Oncology will especially focus on posters in the field of cancer. On the last day of the Congress, an overall winner will be selected for each journal.

There will be a special session organised by FEBS Press, where attendees can meet the journal editors and learn about publishing, as well as attend an exciting workshop on how to create a graphical abstract for your article.

Finally, FEBS Press will have a dedicated corner at the FEBS booth, where attendees can book a meeting with an editor to assess the suitability of their work for publication in a FEBS Press journal, or just show up for a chat about all the different activities organised by FEBS.

Do register if you still haven’t done so. We hope to see you there!
